On Tuesday, February 21, the Strand Bookstore will host the Critics Circle: Inside the Oscars event. The event will feature such esteemed film critics as David Denby (The New Yorker), Michael Musto (Village Voice), Andrew O’Hehir (Salon), Dana Stevens (Slate), and NYU film professor Deborah Reinisch as they engage in a lively pre-Oscars discussion.

Matthew Broderick to Portray Ferris Bueller in a Super Bowl Ad (Video)

It appears that Matthew Broderick is reprising his iconic Ferris Bueller character for a commercial of some sort that will air during Super Bowl XLVI. This is all speculation based on the above ten-second teaser unearthed by Vulture. As they state:

It’s not so shocking that an advertiser would bank on Broderick/Bueller’s enduring legacy as a righteous dude, but one does wonder what exactly Bueller would be up to or endorsing these days, given that he’d now be about 44.

Red Tails

People really seem to be divided over executive producer George Lucas‘ Tuskegee Airmen flick Red Tails. After Lucas went on a publicity campaign in which he took Hollywood studios to task for refusing to take a chance on his World War II passion project, the film went on to gross over $19 million at the box office this past weekend, coming in second place only to the action/horror fourquel Underworld: Awakening.

Nineteen million dollars is nothing to sneeze at, Dear Readers, and given the the rousing reception Red Tails has gotten from moviegoers, not only will it have a good shot at earning its $60 million budget back, it may even fly into the coveted $100 million club. The film has clearly struck a chord with its intended audience. But the question still remains: is it a good film?
